Doggehouse Kennels is owned by Glen &
Kimberly Stewart. Kim is originally from
Sheboygan, Wisconsin and has been involved
in the equine industry for much of her life.
She moved to the North Carolina area years
ago to work for a large quarter horse
training facility and is currently the main
equine instructor at a local community
college. Glen is the owner of EastWave,
which operates multiple internet retail
websites, as well as providing internet
based services to a wide range of clients.
We have tried to apply skills that we have
learned throughout our life to our breeding
program.
Our
experience in the raising and breeding of
purebred dogs is quite extensive as we
have owned or have been involved with
numerous different dog breeds throughout our
lives. We have experience with various lines
of Bulldogs, as well as breeds such as
Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Poodles,
Terriers, Heelers, Retrievers, & Beagles.
The name of
DoggeHouse was a perfect choice to
our program. Many of our friends and family
have always dropped their dogs off to stay
in our acre+ fully fenced dog area, when
they went on vacation. A long running joke
was that our house was the “Dog House”,
which isn’t too far from the truth since we
have welcomed all dogs to stay with us.
Our
introduction to the Olde English
Bulldogge breed was unplanned. Everyone
loves bulldogs, and we always wanted a
regular English Bulldog, but the various
problems inherent with the breed always
turned us away from the breed. English
Bulldogs have always been known to have
issues with skin, breathing, breeding &
other health concerns. There is no way
that we would knowingly breed an animal that
has as many health issues as the modern day
AKC English Bulldog.
Years ago, we
adopted what was claimed to be an “Old
English Bulldog”, but we soon realized
that she was actually a Boxer/Bulldog mix.
Roxxi was a good dog, but had some
temperament issues and would not have been a
proper breeding candidate. She was killed by
a car, but did not die in vain as she had
already turned us on to the wonderful breed
that is the Olde English Bulldogge.
In our search
for true bulldogges, we encountered
numerous shady breeders who were calling
their dogs Olde English Bulldogges
and asking a premium price for animals that
were truly just hybrid bully mixes or
grossly non-standard English Bulldogs. We
finally acquired what we consider to be
excellent examples of true Olde English
Bulldogges with lineage that traces back
to the original creators of the breed,
